Laban knew Jacob was a source of blessing. He did not want that source of blessing to leave. In that regard, Laban offers Jacob a deal to stay. Jacob sees the potential and in a picture of early genetic science uses what his father in law intends for harm and turns it in to prosperity. God blesses Jacob inspite of Laban’s attempts to cheat. What a great reminder that God will not allow the world to succeed in altering his plan. God prospered Jacob through some amazing miracles so that Jacob had the hardiest and robust herds.
In our lives, we are also subject to the World’s attempts to use and abuse us. We have to remain on guard and diligent to prevent the world from completely destroying us. As we do, we like Jacob will see God, not the world will ultimately bless us and make us prosper. We have to submit to his leadership, listen for his direction and follow his plan to enjoy his provision and protection. It is a scary adventure, but God has shown time and again he Loves us and wants for us to enjoy his blessing and provision.
God Bless You
“Don’t give me anything,” Jacob replied. “But if you will do this one thing for me, I will go on tending your flocks and watching over them: 32 Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb and every spotted or speckled goat. They will be my wages. 33 And my honesty will testify for me in the future, whenever you check on the wages you have paid me. Any goat in my possession that is not speckled or spotted, or any lamb that is not dark-colored, will be considered stolen. ”
34 “Agreed,” said Laban. “Let it be as you have said.” 35 That same day he removed all the male goats that were streaked or spotted, and all the speckled or spotted female goats (all that had white on them) and all the dark-colored lambs, and he placed them in the care of his sons. 36 Then he put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob continued to tend the rest of Laban’s flocks.
