John 1–The Deity that is Jesus

As John pondered how best to discuss his Friend, he decided to “Go big or go home!”  In the beginning was “logos” the word, the word was with God and the word was God! Jesus made it all, He breathed life into it all, and he was the light of it all. John was as taken with this truth of Jesus’ deity while writing the gospel as he had been at the Mount of transfiguration.

It had to be overwhelming and life-altering to have stood with the creator of our universe.  John, as Jesus dear friend, had to process the reality that he literally got used to dining, laughing, working, and doing life on the daily with Immanuel.  I imagine, even as he was writing this gospel, John’s mind flooded with memories of the days and nights with the Lord.  Then to embrace that Jesus was himself, Adonai, even took John’s breath away.  That is why John began the account with the Deity of Jesus.

Jesus literally formed and filled our planet with the water, the plants, and the firmament we take for granted.  All the creatures that roam were made by Jesus’ design. It is with that colossal truth that John raises the curtain to the life of Jesus.

We cannot rationally pass that truth without it affecting us. It drove John to his knees in prayer and to the world in utter commitment to see that Jesus could connect with as many people, Jew or Gentile, as was possible.

In my personal walk with the Lord, I am still utterly amazed that the Creator also became the servant and sacrificed His very life to redeem me. I neither deserve that sacrifice, nor could I have ever earned the price it would take to repay it.  I have really only one option that is reasonable and rational; that is to accept Jesus’ gift and to follow Him with complete and humble adoration.

It is for that reason, that John led with the truth that Jesus was almighty God. John had no greater desire than to use this gospel to bring us to that captivating truth. Let us not miss the opportunity to simply rest in it, and let us follow God completely!

God Bless You

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

This is an amazing Journey. I hope you will hear from the Lord, as you seek Him with your heart. Matthew 6:33
