Psalm 29–The Catastrophic Power of God

This psalm  recognizes of God’s power and majesty. His chosen often forget that the God that forgives, restores, and heals is powerful and deserves our reverence and recognition of His power.  David sets the stage for a mighty storm.  Thunder clapping, trees rocking, winds blowing through the flames.  One can see the catastrophic damage.

In these 59 years, I have witnessed the devastation of tornadoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, and floods.  It turns lives upside down and there is very little to be done other than leave and give the storm a wide berth.  David reminds us that God is that powerful.  but more importantly, that this God that can shake nations and topple forests, protects His chosen and gives them peace.

David reminds us that while we love our Lord, we also need to respect Him and remember how powerful He is. We also need to remember just how quickly and  easily the Lord can change our world.  There is nothing that God cannot accomplish.  We should focus upon His wonder and trust His ability to protect us and give us peace!

God Bless You

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon leap like a calf,
    Sirion[b] like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord strikes
    with flashes of lightning.
The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
    the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[c]
    and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
    the Lord is enthroned as King forever.
11 The Lord gives strength to his people;
    the Lord blesses his people with peace.
