Luke 2 Part 4–Another Big Day at the Temple

Amazingly, Jesus knew from early on that his mission was greater than most.  In this last story written in Luke 2–the Jesus recap, Luke tells the story of Jesus, still as a boy attending a festival in Jerusalem.  After the festival, as all were headed back, Mary realizes Jesus was not there.  Panic ensues and the search was on.  After a time, they found Jesus meeting with the Rabbi’s and having quite the conversation with them.  Mary was not pleased.  She called Jesus on his wandering off, but, Jesus was not upset, he said, I just figured you would know I was at my Father’s House and being about my Father’s business!

The verses that followed are awesome.  Jesus went home and obeyed…and Mary hid these things in her heart as treasures.  Jesus never intended disrespect and was a model son–but His was a mission to change the world.  His mom knew that, God picked her to help in His preparation, after all! So, while worried, she was pleased to see her son becoming the Man He had to be.  She knew what was ahead and she knew Jesus had to be ready.  God chose well.

In our day, God is still choosing well.  We are each called and prepared for a mission. We are His people and live lives to honor Him.  We need to seek Him with all our hearts and realize that each trial and event in our lives makes us a little more ready to face what lies ahead.  We have to trust Him, as Mary did.  We must follow humbly and graciously and allow the Lord to execute His plan for our lives. We too must be about our Father’s business.

God Bless you

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[f] 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
