After all the preparation, God established a nation. He ordered them, fed them, gave them a place to meet and worship. God taught them about Law, order, reverence and faith.  Now it was finally time fir Israel to go and take the land the Lord promised them.  So, as the trumpets sounded, the tribes lined up, the tent of meeting and tabernacle were carefully put away.  The people of Israel set off toward the promised land.  This was the first time they set out under Moses command.

Moses invited his father-in -law to remain with Israel. He knew that the Midianite was familiar with this desert and could provide valuable insights and direction as they proceeded. So now this people were on their way. They marched for three days and made their first stop in the desert of Paran.  When they stopped the procedure God set out was followed and the cloud descended back on the tent of meeting–it was time to rest.

God spends a great deal of time in our lives, preparing us for the mission. It seems grueling, and often overwhelming as He molds and shapes us for the battles we must face.  The great news is that just as with Israel, God stays with us and leads us,  We cannot give up–though it seems tempting. We must continue to march forward trusting God to lead, guide and direct us. If we will trust Him, God will lead us to the promise of abundant life here, and eternal life with Him.  It is worth the preparation, it is worth the trials and tribulations–God is great and He reminds us in Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

God Bless You
On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year, the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle of the covenant law. 12 Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran. 13 They set out, this first time, at the Lord’s command through Moses…Now Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”30 He answered, “No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people.”

31 But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. 32 If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the Lord gives us.”

33 So they set out from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.34 The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they set out from the camp.

35 Whenever the ark set out, Moses said,

“Rise up, Lord!
May your enemies be scattered;
may your foes flee before you.”

36 Whenever it came to rest, he said,

“Return, Lord,
to the countless thousands of Israel.”
