To begin his ministry, Jesus came to John the Baptist, to be baptized. John had it right, Jesus did not need to be baptized for the atonement and repentance for sin…he was sinless. Still, it was the beginning of his ministry, and he wanted everyone to see the need for a change of heart and life; so, there Jesus was, before the crowd, being baptized by the one who had announced His coming. It is obvious that John felt awkward, but, he did as he was told and as Jesus rose from the baptismal waters–the trinity united–the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus shoulder and the Father announced–This is my Son, who I love, and in whom I am well pleased. God was excited for the redemption and reclamation to begin.
After thousands of years of separation, God was starting the journey to reclaim and redeem those he loved. No one had any idea of what lie ahead–but, in the next few years, the world would be turned upside down and life would return to a dead and dying human race. All they had to do was to ask. So as God saw Jesus being baptized, he had the pride of any father watching his son Go off to battle–Courageous, focused and ready to literally change the world.
Today, we celebrate Jesus Life by trusting and following him. We never doubt his deity, his power or his word. But we have the benefit of the word, and thousands of years of history showing his impact literally dividing time. Our only requirement, is to trust him, seek Him, and follow him on this amazing journey–He saves us , redeems us, and raises us by his power. We are fortunate, loved and saved by His grace! Thank You, Father, for sending your beloved Son to change the world, and to save me!
God Bless You
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
