Psalm 147–Why do We Praise Him?

The psalmist answers the burning question on the mind of his readers–“Why are you so devoted to this God of Israel?” In a word, because God does it all. He created the Earth, He built a nation of priests to draw the world back to relationship with him. He gave his people the Law and a land that they could prosper and grow in. He gave them grace and mercy when they forsook him. While God allowed them to experience the independence from Him, and the exile that followed–He brought them back and restored them. He gave them the law–the basis of law all over the free world. Mostly, He sent his Son to restore what sin had so brutally ripped away.

Why do we praise God–see above. Without God and His handiwork, we would be dead and scattered. There would be no purpose, no hope and no reason to expect anything but pain and death. We would be atrocious and selfish; and the life we lived would have no meaning or purpose.  As with the psalmist–God has shown Himself faithful time and again.  He loves us and wants nothing more than for us to have a full and meaningful life here and eternity with Him in Heaven. That is clearly reason enough to praise Him.

God Bless You

Praise the Lord.[a]

How good it is to sing praises to our God,
    how pleasant and fitting to praise him!

The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
    he gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars
    and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
    his understanding has no limit.
The Lord sustains the humble
    but casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
    make music to our God on the harp.

He covers the sky with clouds;
    he supplies the earth with rain
    and makes grass grow on the hills.
He provides food for the cattle
    and for the young ravens when they call.

10 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
    nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
11 the Lord delights in those who fear him,
    who put their hope in his unfailing love.

12 Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;
    praise your God, Zion.

13 He strengthens the bars of your gates
    and blesses your people within you.
14 He grants peace to your borders
    and satisfies you with the finest of wheat.

15 He sends his command to the earth;
    his word runs swiftly.
16 He spreads the snow like wool
    and scatters the frost like ashes.
17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles.
    Who can withstand his icy blast?
18 He sends his word and melts them;
    he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.

19 He has revealed his word to Jacob,
    his laws and decrees to Israel.
20 He has done this for no other nation;
    they do not know his laws.[b]

Praise the Lord.

This is an amazing Journey. I hope you will hear from the Lord, as you seek Him with your heart. Matthew 6:33
