Today, the psalmist rightfully remembered the wonderful gift of worship in a land that was safe for God’s chosen people. The psalmist actually rejoiced at the thought of going to the place of worship. Then and now, It is a highlight to go to God’s house, get in His presence and join others in praising and worshiping the One that gives life, hope and purpose. Israel was God’s nation, he led them, established them and protected them–as they cleared the promised land. He helped them to rise as a prominent nation and established Jerusalem as their capital.
We live in a nation that, like Israel, was founded on the ability to worship God freely. Millions of people gather each weekend, in various houses of worship, and remember that all that they have, and all that they are–came as a result of the freedom to worship God. When we realize how much a privilege it is to worship; in this nation under God–we, like the psalmist, can rejoice and be thankful that we live in a land where worship is not only allowed but looked forward to from sea to shining sea!
God Bless You
I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet are standing
in your gates, Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is built like a city
that is closely compacted together.
4 That is where the tribes go up—
the tribes of the Lord—
to praise the name of the Lord
according to the statute given to Israel.
5 There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your prosperity.
