It is a wonderful thing to be in the presence of God. The time in prayer and in worship bring us closer to the place we belong. The psalmist in this psalm is captivated by the beauty and the peace that comes from following the Lord.  God’s grace and wonder allows us a peek at what is yet to come from an eternal perspective.  While we are physically limited from being with God in Heaven, spiritually, we are given the great opportunity to worship, follow and take in his presence.

We often forget that the relationship with God is not completely unlike our other relationships with friends and family.  It requires daily attention and focused effort.  We need to spend time in the word, time in prayer and time in fellowship with other believers.  As we do, we see glimpses of what Heaven will be like and what we will be like when we get to Heaven.

The popular worship song and now movie I Can Only Imagine  paints the picture. We cannot even fathom what it will be like to be full time in his glory. But we know that eternity  lies ahead and we live each day on earth practicing his presence and learning to follow and be like him.  As we continue to follow him, we become more confident that Heaven and his dwelling place are worth the wait.

God Bless You

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
    Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.[c]

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;
    the autumn rains also cover it with pools.[d]
They go from strength to strength,
    till each appears before God in Zion.

Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me, God of Jacob.
Look on our shield,[e] O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.

10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty,
    blessed is the one who trusts in you.
