Imagine the life one could have–if they actually loved God as deeply as they loved their 1st sweetheart. Romantic comedies all over the world portray “true love” the same way David describes as his feelings about God. David longed for God, hungered and thirsted after Him. David gave his whole life to God, in fact, David considered God the essence of his very life. The beautiful thing about David’s description of his passion for God–is that doesn’t begin to describe God’s love for us.
Starting in the beginning, God demonstrated his love for us. He built the universe to reveal himself to us. He designed the earth and everything in it to accommodate us.(Genesis 1-2) He gave us dominion and power over all things on the earth(Genesis 2.) Even after we rejected him–he still made a way for us to continue fellowship with him, He set up laws,(Exodus 20), sacrifices (Leviticus) and even sent his only son–Jesus, to die for our sin.(Romans 5:8) If ever there was the makings of a love story–these are the needed ingredients.
As we walk through our day, we need to reflect upon our relationship with God. Is he a stranger, a casual acquaintance, a historical figure, or is he that special and true love in your life. God wants to occupy a special place in our hearts. If we follow God and make him 1st place in our lives; then he will transform us, and make our lives amazing. We will truly understand and receive the selfless love we all long for. We will be able to love others–because He first loved us. Finally, he will give us a depth and purpose that will guide us past a lifetime of pain and sorrow.(Proverbs 3:5-6) David said it best in Psalm 37:4–“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
God Bless You
You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
