El Olam (The Everlasting God) Genesis 21:33, Psalms 106, Psalms 136

The timelessness of God is simply too much to comprehend. It is a well-established principle that God has always been, is and will always be.  The stability of knowing he is always there; brings comfort in the most chaotic of times.  David, while hiding in caves and fleeing for his life from Saul, took refuge in the fact that no matter what; God never left, nor never changed.  Abraham, when he and Sarah planted their tree in Beersheba, celebrated that God would always to be there, and his covenant would always last.

The everlasting nature of God is what gives us hope 2000 years after Christ’s coming to earth.  We understand that he never changes, and that the promise of salvation he made to Adam, Abraham, Moses, David and many other patriarchs through the generations is still as valid and real as it was when Adam sinned.  He never tires, he never wears out.  God’s memory never fades.  He is as strong, as fast and as sharp as any other time.

Finally, his everlasting nature makes his promises and commitment as relevant today as they were when he appeared to the patriarchs.  His love for us is equal to his love for Israel, for the disciples and for the early church.  His promise to forgive our sin and give us eternal life is as fresh to him now as it was when Paul told the Romans–“If you confess with your mouth that he is Lord, and believe that God has raised him from the dead…then you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.

 We can rest in the promise that the timeless nature of El Olam–the Everlasting God will bind us and keep us safe until his return, and then for all eternity.

God Bless You

Psalm 106:47:

“Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your Holy name and to triumph in Your praise. Blessed is the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting..

Genesis 21:33

“And Abraham planted a tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the LORD [Yahweh], the Everlasting God.”

Psalms 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,

    for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of gods,

    for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords,

    for his steadfast love endures forever;

to him who alone does great wonders,

    for his steadfast love endures forever;

to him who by understanding made the heavens,

    for his steadfast love endures forever;

to him who spread out the earth above the waters,

    for his steadfast love endures forever;
