Yogi Barra best described our behavior as Christians, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it!” So often, we know that we have to choose to follow the world’s pattern; or, we have to follow the Lord’s pattern.  Intellectually, we know the choice for us is clear–submit to the Lord’s pattern. In doing so, we achieve peace, freedom and impact on the world around us.

Still, we struggle with the same choices we did before we were saved by God’s grace. Selfishness, pride, greed, lust and covetousness continue to rear their ugly heads and drive us back to our most basic sinful nature. There we stand at that fork in the road; and, like Paul said in Romans 7, “The things I am supposed to do–I don’t do and the things I am not supposed to do, well, I do all the time!!!”

The life we live by faith requires that we pick the path toward God and eternity.  It requires prayer, patience and an understanding that we are at war! We resist the temptation set before us, and we recognize that nothing in this life comes close to comparing to what awaits us in eternity. We choose the path that honors God, and we submit to his leadership–then, He prepares us for the next day’s battles, He provides for the next day’s needs and he protects us from the enemies attacks. We win, he builds us up, and we leave a legacy that lasts well beyond our days here in the fray!

God Bless You

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the worldmeans enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[c]

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.
