The Great Mediator–Hebrews 8

It is overwhelming to understand the depth of the difference Christ made as a mediator between God and men.  When Abram met Melchizedek, it was clear he was set apart from other high priests.  It was his relationship with God and the person he was that made him the mediator between God and Abram.  The Levitical priests were mediators by heritage–Moses, Aaron and those that came after learned to serve by the tradition of their lineage.  Their personal sin made their mediation temporary and men’s atonement only a stop gap without permanent change of heart or position.

Christ, from the tribe of Judah became the great and last mediator between men and God.  His personal sacrifice was the game changer that resolved men’s sin once and for all. his death and resurrection made the old sacrificial system useless.  If men would receive his gift, their sin would be forgiven once and for all.

We need to celebrate and worship the true mediator that has changed our heart and our relationship with God.  He now draws us directly into the Holy of Holy’s with God.  We can communicate and seek God directly. Because of Christ, our sin is forgiven and our life restored to its eternal condition.  The old is gone and the new has come.

God Bless You

If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. 13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life.17 For it is declared:

“You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.”[a]

18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless. 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
