Blessed in the Midst of Trials–Genesis 39 Part 1

When we are in the midst of trials, it is difficult to see the blessings that are occurring around us.  Joseph was clearly in the midst of a trial.  Uprooted, enslaved and forgotten at home–Joseph was clearly alone.  But, his response to the trial was to trust God and to work hard.  God blessed his efforts.  God blessed the household he served and God gave him favor with his master.  He literally became the 2nd in charge of the house.  Further, because of his presence, the house was seeing blessing on every side.  While the circumstances for Joseph were not ideal, God was blessing him.

Often, when we are experiencing hardship and trials, God is actively intervening in our lives. We lose sight of the blessings, because we become focused upon the trials. Joseph reminds us to focus upon God and allow him to work even when we are struggling.  We never know whom we may bless and what blessings are in store for us in the trial.  We can be assured, however, that God has promised he will never leave us or forsake us. If we remain focused upon him–we will see his hand of blessing in all circumstances.

God Bless You

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
