What an amazing message for Jacob. His years of service and trust were being confirmed from all perspectives. His wealth grew exponentially, his conniving father- in-law was failing at every turn, The Lord flat out told him he had been watching and protecting him and even his wives (that never agreed about anything) confirmed their support of their husband. Jacob easily and without remorse packed up and headed home.
Often we ask God to give us a sign for confirmation. It seems so quiet and desolate in our lives. Then, God answers prayers, provides counsel and confirms through those we love and trust–and, instead of following his lead, we look doe-eyed at him and say can I have a sign? It must be frustrating to God. We simply need to walk obediently and humbly with him and watch for the signs he provides. They may be subtle, but, they will be unmistakable. We also must be patient and trust him with all our hearts.
The signs are there, we simply need to sharpen our spiritual awareness and exercise patience so that we can recognize his hand. He says in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways and he will make your journey straight.”
God Bless You
The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’ 12 And he said, ‘Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you. 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.’”
14 Then Rachel and Leah replied, “Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father’s estate? 15 Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us. 16 Surely all the wealth that God took away from our father belongs to us and our children. So do whatever God has told you.”
