It is like drinking from a fire hose—When God makes a promise it is complete, eternal and unconditional. God has no problem speaking his heart. His single most important desire is to assure us of his commitment. As with most Dads, he wants us to learn by example. He wants us to keep our commitment to him and to others, so he makes clear commitments that he will keep—to us. In addition, Jacob was always plotting an angle. God wanted to enter the relationship without ay angles or deception. God wanted Jacob to follow him with a pure heart.
It is equally awesome that God has made as strong a commitment to us! He tells us that if we will confess with our mouths that he is Lord AND believe in our hearts that God has raised him from the dead—then we will be saved! This is no small task—Confessing God’s Lordship means bowing in submission to his will (not living independent.) Believing in our hearts that God has raised him means we not only know it, but we live as if it is true—FAITH! It has always been about faith and submission. Jaob was learning it and we need to as well! Help me, Lord to follow you graciously and confidently!
God Bless You
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it[c] stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.[d] 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
