The opposite of Love is not hate–it is indifference. God would rather deal with those that hate him than with those that are simply indifferent. The Church at Laodicea was not a great church or a heretical church–it was simply a church gave a token acknowledgement to God, but, then did life the way they wanted to. They really felt like they had it all together. They had money, they looked good and by human standard, they did the church thing, just fine. But, while they were willing to acknowledge God, they were not willing to humbly follow him. That made God sick!
God, wants to be Lord of our life. He does not want to control our every move, but, he does want us to follow him. He will not settle for an occasional tip of the hat or attendance at a function–He asks us to seek him and allow him to lead us to freedom. If we do, he makes our lives amazing, but if we don’t, even though we appear to have it together–from an eternal perspective, we are a mess. Jesus calls us–If we answer his call and follow him, he will treat us with lavish love and guide us to the wealth of heaven. If we do not, we are separated and are left to do life on our own and reap the cost of that lifestyle. There simply is no half way–be hot or cold. Lukewarm is just sickening!
God Bless You
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
