Hospitality the best Evangelism Tool–3 John

There are so many tools for evangelism.  Pamphlets, tracts, revivals movies, skits and the list goes on.  But since the first century, the best tool of evangelism has been hospitality and love.  I remember in college hearing again and again–“People do not care what you know until they know that you care.” Everyone longs to be treated well. We in the Church should be the masters of treating folks well.

So, welcome people, listen to them share your heart with them.  When they see the difference Christ has made in us, they will want what we have.  Sadly, many in the Church practice exclusivity. they do not want to be exposed to “Pagans”.  Truth is we are called to be in the lives of those who need Christ–then they will see our hearts and want Christ in their lives.  Lord, help me to treat folks well!!!

God Bless You

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, just as you are progressing spiritually. It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters,[a] even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way in a manner that honours God. It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth…Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Do Not Lose What You Have Already Achieved–2 John

We should not need to be reminded, but we sometimes do, that we must believe the truth and stop chasing the lovely lies the world and our enemy like to tell. As I look at modern media, the messages grow louder each year–faith in God is crazy.  If you trust God you are intolerant, radical and somewhat ignorant.  Yet, if you place your faith yourself, politics, entertainment or money, you are very astute.  It really does not matter that all of those things are temporal and in utter chaos.  It only matters that you do not follow God.

Stop listening to the noise.  Instead listen to the truth.  God is God and is faithful like none other.  He created us and provides for and protects us through the struggles we face.  He gives us peace, security and an eternity with him so that we can follow and enjoy the freedom he provides.

We must hold on to this truth and share it with all who will listen.  This truth is what can help our nation to right its course and return as “One Nation Under God”.  More importantly, this truth will help us to live lives of purpose and pass the legacy on to our families.  Help me Lord to love others and follow your commands–then I can help to change the world!

‘God Bless You

I am writing to remind you, dear friends,[c] that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning. Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.

I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came[d] in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what we[e] have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward. Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.

Praying to a Loving Father–1 John 5 Final

Pray according to his will…it is what every Father wants.  He wants to give us the desires of our heart.  He wants us, however, to know him.  He wants us to know what not to ask him about.  In his eyes, there are no small requests.  But, he does not want us to ask for things that go against his very nature.

God is not a stick in the mud.  He created the world and its beauty.  He wants us, however, to follow him so that we can experience it in freedom.  Don’t ask God to let you run the show…he loves you too much.  Don’t ask him to make you great at your sin or dependencies.  Do not ask him to put you in harm’s way.  No child would ask these things of their dad.  It is OK , however to ask him to promote you, protect you and provide for your needs–that is his sweet spot.  He is not only good at it; but, he loves to do it.  He truly wants your desires to be eternal–so he can give them to you all day–every day!!!

God Bless You

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

The Deciding Factor–1 John 5 Part 2

When it is all boiled down, there is only one truth–God loves us and provided for us an answer for the separation between us and him. The key words are, however, “an answer”–not several answers.  He became flesh, died on a cross, rose from the dead after 3 days to pay for our sin and stands ready to restore what sin has destroyed.

The hard news is–it has to be done his way.  We have to accept the gift of Christ’s sacrifice and have a personal relationship with him.  We will never be good enough or do enough good to earn that gift.  Those who grasp that truth are saved, freed and restored to an intimate fellowship with God.  Those who don’t– are deceived, enslaved and separated from God to run their own life.  John could not have been more clear–those who have the son have life, those who do not have the son, do not have eternal life.  Thanks Lord for giving me Life!!!

God Bless You

All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son.

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

Who Can Win the Battle–1 John 5 Part 1

It is great to distinguish yourself.  One need only open You tube to find countless examples of people working to set themselves apart and establish their place in this world.  We are also called to be set apart. And God, being the father that he is simply wants us to be set apart from a world gone bad.  So How do we set ourselves apart?

In this passage we see three factors that make us unique. 1) Believing Jesus is the Christ (Messiah). 2) Loving God and Loving his kids.  3) Keeping his Commands–By faith.  It is mostly a matter of trust–trusting God to be God, trusting Christ to be the risen Savior and trusting God’s plan to be designed to make us like him and to prepare us for Eternity.  If we do that, we will be SET APART.

God Bless You

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ[a] has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Love One Another–1 John 4 Part 2

It is not the archeology, it is not the artifacts, it is not the monuments, cathedrals or theologians–The greatest proof of God is his imprint of Love in all our lives.  In Romans 5:8 it says God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Unconditional love.  We see it preached in sermons, written in books, played out on screen and stage–BUT, as a design imprint, we also see it in every culture, religion, class, race and demographic.  Unconditional love is our default setting in the times of greatest need and hopeless circumstance.

In our lives, however, it is more than that.  We affirmatively choose to love one another, in all circumstance.  Like all families, we get frustrated and annoyed by each others unique traits, but, we never give up and we always love each other no matter what the circumstances are.  It is the most accurate picture of God we have.  It sends us into the fire and across the world–in his name.  It also brings us to our knees in prayer and to our Bibles for direction.  We Love God and we Love one another–God on Display all day every day.

God Bless You

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

13 And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. 14 Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.

I John 4 Part 1–Its All About God

Time and again we try to make difficult what is truly simple.  How do we discern the true teachers from the false ones…Well, it is all about whom the focus is on.  If we are listening to those speaking the truth, then we are hearing messages about God, his power, his desires to make us free.  The teachers name, exploits and blessings are not the focus.

Conversely, the teachers that are not God centered speak of themselves, they tell you that it is all in and up to you and you are the master of your destiny.  They show you wealth and sparkles and remind you that you have to captain your own ship.

God’s message is clear–there can only be one leader–Him.  He will lead, protect and provide but not share authority.  If we are willing to follow, he will free us from the chains that hold us and lead us to an eternity that will be so much greater than we could ever imagine. Any teacher that leads you away from that truth is a liar. Help me Lord, to teach your truth.

God Bless You

If a person claiming to be a prophet[a] acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

Real Love–1 John 3 Final

When I was a young adolescent, I always wondered How I would know when it was true love.  In our Journey, we know real Love by how our actions match up with our words.  Christ showed his Love for us by living and dying in a way that showed he cared about our interests more than he did his own.  He gave up his position as God, he lived a sacrificial life and he died a brutal death to demonstrate true love.

We need to follow his example.  As we do, we show those we know that we love him.  We show it by being selfless.  We show it by being humble and we show it by simply doing the things he called us to do.  We do not have to put on a big show, we simply have to surrender to his leadership and show love to one another–that is Real Love.

God Bless You

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister[f] in need but

18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 19 Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. 20 Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.

21 Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. 22 And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him.

His Kids–1 John 3 part 1

It is great to be royalty.  We are kids of the King.  It is a tremendous honor, it provides the promise of a great inheritance, but, as we journey through this world, as foreigners, the world neither recognizes us nor our Father.  That is why we are called to be his ambassadors.(2 Corinthians 5:20). When we deal with the world, it is incumbent to help the world to see how great God is.

Even when we do, however, we need to be prepared to be disappointed by the world’s response. The World hates God, because he asks them to think of others and he asks them to release control of their lives,  He does so to free them from the chains this world entangles folk with,  Still, people want to be masters of their own destiny, even when that destiny is destruction.  That is why we can show them how great he is and how awesome a surrendered life can be–as a child of the King.

God Bless You

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.

The Last Days–1 John 2 Part 3

The last days of the world will be stark–Those who follow Christ will be noticeably different than those who do not.  The world will demand and force a choice.  If you want to fit in you will need to disregard God and all manners of selflessness.  You will have to resemble the world and its behavior.  If you do not, you will be separated, persecuted and ultimately treated as the martyrs of the past. The question is when will that occur.

Well, if you live in Sudan, Iraq, China or a host of other countries in our world–its happening now. In the West, we see anti proselytizing laws appearing in France, UK and even in the good ole USA.  It is subtle, but, unless we as a people humble ourselves, and pray and seek his face–God will allow the last days to begin.  We cannot stand by any longer, we as a church must repent and take our stand to bring Christ to the World.  The enemy certainly continues to work overtime, we must do the same.

God Bless You

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. 19 These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.

20 But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit,[e] and all of you know the truth. 21 So I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies. 22 And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ.[f] Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist.[g] 23 Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. 25 And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.
